I’m very excited to be on the final ‘proof read’ of my book!
Yesterday we re-discovered the quaint township of Babinda. We had been recommended a lovely free campsite at The Boulders, 7km outside Babinda at the foot of Mount Bartle Frere, the tallest mountain in Queensland.
We arrived early and set up Priscilla in a pretty, tranquil clearing before heading to The Boulders, a superb swimming hole with clear, spring fed water. Rick braved a swim but the water was too cold for me.
Our next surprise was the Josephine Falls, another treasure with water cascading down the rocks to swimming holes along the way.
I was ready to do some proof reading in the peaceful campsite we had selected. Alas, on our return we founds every square inch was covered with tents, motor homes, swags and humanity, including a duck, chooks, a peacock, an arrogant rooster and several curlews, all strutting through the camp. Millie had to be tied up, as the sport was too tempting!
After finally winning a hand of canasta with Rick….at last…. We retired for the night.
Then……. wailing from a child next door! Man these kids have great stamina being able to wail for hours at a time! Then, the scratching of the rooster who decided to strut along Priscilla’s roof, with all he had to choose from to spend the night, why pick mine??
Naturally, we were the first to be greeting daylight with his cock-a-doodle-doing in my ear for what seemed like hours, until he finally moved on to the rest of the camp.
We were so hemmed in by our camping neighbours, we had to ask them to take their ‘fly’ (canvas awning) down to enable us to reverse Priscilla out after waiting for our other neighbour to leave so we could get the car in to hitch.
I’m now happy, having found a Zarraffa’s coffee shop….heaven. We are happily settled in a pleasant Caravan Park in Cairns beside the swimming pool, with no evidence of roosters!!
Now for some proof reading………..
