New Beginnings
I sometimes wonder how many more ‘New Beginnings’ I will experience in my more mature years!
Moving from a home with happy memories is always difficult but it comes with the anticipation of new experiences, a new neighbourhood, different shopping hubs, restaurants, coffee shops and dog parks.
You may have gathered that we have recently relocated for the eleventh time, and I swear there will not be a twelfth move! My family remind me that I have made this statement before. I think it makes it obvious that each move has been positive and happy.
Rick and I departed from a small apartment affectionately named the ‘Ibis Cave’ by our son. I gather the name came about as we love left over meals and will eat anything!
Unlike most people of our age who downsize at this stage, we have upsized, having seriously downsized previously to enable us to live in a caravan whilst traversing our wide country for twelve months, only to be thwarted by Covid after two months. Our “Ibis Cave’ was small, cosy and comfortable with a well-appointed workshop where my dear husband created merry hell with the cacophony of saws, routers and other wood working machines adding liberal piles of dust onto everything, as he worked away with his earphone is, oblivious to the chaos he caused his harried wife, who occasionally attempted to continue with her writing career, without success.
The only downside to our little utopia with a beautiful garden was that there were thirty-nine steps down to our front door.
This was beginning to create a problem carting groceries, potting mix, and suitcases on the occasions we were leaving for a weekend for this elderly couple, not to mention the urgency needed for a toilet stop!
It was time for new beginnings, but it was with sadness we departed from our little home.
We are now happily settled in a single level duplex in a different suburb with a whole new neighbourhood to discover. Nearby we have a delightful, small shopping complex with the necessities of coffee, bakery, general store, butcher, post office, chemist and medical centre. Aldi is a fifteen-minute walk away. What more could I want? Our neighbours are friendly and welcoming.
I have been invited to be a guest speaker at a women’s group where I will meet new faces.
I plan to complete my novel now that I have an office with a window and without the additional noise of the woodworking machines in my ears.
The small garden space is a blank canvas which I’m itching to create some magic within.
I gifted my book ‘Back of Beyond” to my dear neighbour who enjoyed it. She has told her friends and shared the book ,with one of them discovering my second book ‘Innocent Nurses Abroad’ at her local library. This is now doing the rounds. I love this networking!
Following her enthusiasm my creative juices are beginning to flow after a long hibernation. I shall be writing once more.
I look forward to our new beginnings with anticipation and interest.
We are blessed to have a wonderful family who have made this move possible. I have enormous gratitude and love for them all.
Family is the BEST.
Until next time
Jenny
