RETURNING TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

I was booked to do an Author Talk at the Longreach Library at 10.30am on the 8th May. We were set up and ready to go when another Author arrived to do her talk at the same time! We each thought the other was the intruder but compromised and made a plan. We need not have worried as no-one turned up! It appeared there had been no publicity for our event. We enjoyed time chatting with the Librarian.

Onward and Upward!!

Anyone visiting Longreach MUST visit Kinnon’s Station Store. This wonderful family had sold a number of my book ‘McAllister’ over the years and had invited us to afternoon tea. Here, we were treated like royalty, served specially baked, feather-light scones, homemade strawberry jam and thick clotted cream. The large enamel pots of tea were covered with colourful, crocheted tea cosies with the tea served in fine bone china cups and saucers. The family and staff sat down with us and we felt right at home. Kinnon’s business includes, River Cruises, Station Tours with Shearing Demonstrations, Horse Drawn Coach Tours, a stunning Gift Shop and elegant Tea Rooms. What an experience! Don’t miss it!

We camped off the road that evening, enjoying the beautiful sunsets that I miss and the masses of chattering wild budgerigars in the trees beside the van.

Next stop, Cloncurry, where the memories came flooding back. So many happy times were enjoyed in this small, vibrant little town. Surrounded by the Mines that employ people and bring revenue to the community they support financially.

What a welcome we received at the stunning Mt Isa Library for my Author Talk the following day. We were shown to a large room set up with round tables, posters everywhere, a screen, head microphone, projector and tables for our books. Smiling faces everywhere welcoming us, the Staff that is! A room alongside was set up with a delicious and generous morning tea.

Only three guests and 5 staff attended, but we sold a bunch of books and it was a very happy and relaxed presentation. They have difficulty getting people to such events, but we were not disappointed.

I had a great interview with Esther at the ABC later in the morning.
